Carthage,
MO*: tour the Precious
Moments Chapel. Could extend trip to Diamond, MO and tour the new
George Washington Carver museum.
Eureka
Springs, AR: see the
sites, shop their antique stores, visit the Christ of the Ozarks
statue, and attend the Great Passion Play or one of their live Ozark
shows. This town has been called "the Little Switzerland of the Ozarks"
and is a nifty town to visit.
Hannibal, MO: attend one of their festivals and visit the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum, the Clemens Justice of the Peace Office, the Becky Thatcher Home, and the Molly Brown Birthplace and Museum. Take a Mississippi riverboat cruise and ride the sightseeing tour train.
Hermann,
MO*: attend their
Maifest (usually 3rd weekend in May) or their Octoberfest
(first 4 Saturdays in October). Take a bus or go by Amtrak which is
always an adventure.
Jamesport,
MO*: shop their
antique stores and experience a 30-mile guided tour of the horse and
buggy Amish community which includes shopping in some of their gift,
furniture, bakery and grocery stores.
Oklahoma City, OK: In this state
capital, we will tour the Oklahoma History Center, visit Bricktown (a
popular entertainment district) where we will enjoy a private tour
through the picturesque canal in a water taxi. The next day we will see
their stockyards district, drive by the Capitol building, tour the
National Cowboy Hall of Fame, then visit the memorial site of the
Murrah Federal Building bombing.
Pella,
IA: attend the Pella
Tulip Festival in May but must make hotel reservations for this
by Feb. 1.
St. Joseph, MO* Tour the Pony Express Museum, visit the famous Patee House Museum, see the house where Jesse James was killed, and drive through the downtown area.
St. Louis: ride the tram up the Arch, take a short cruise down the Mississippi River, shop in Union Station, tour Grant's Farm, visit the Loop and stroll down their famous Walk of Stars, shop in the Neiman Marcus store, plus lots more.
Tulsa, OK: go to the Will Rogers Museum, tour the new Oklahoma Aquarium, visit the Oral Roberts Univ. and see their gem and mineral museum, tour the famous Philbrook Art Museum (or the Gilcrease Art Museum), the Tulsa Air and Space and much more. This was my home for 21 years and I love to show it off.
